Terms of reference
Having regard to the existing programmes and activities in promoting civic awareness and responsibility:
(1) | To study, discuss and make proposals on the objectives and scope of civic education and its ways of implementation, including mapping out the strategy and plans on promotion of national education and encouraging cooperation amongst the Government, voluntary agencies, youth organizations, district and community organizations in promoting national education; |
(2) | To liaise with and assist in the efforts of various Government departments and community organizations in promoting civic education; and |
(3) | To encourage all sectors of the community to actively promote civic and national awareness, the respective responsibilities and to participate in associated activities, as well as to provide the necessary guidelines and support for this purpose. |
Description of the job
The Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education is a non-statutory committee set up in 1986 to liaise with related Government departments and community organizations in promoting civic education outside schools and encourage all sectors of the community to actively promote civic awareness and assume civic responsibility. Apart from producing educational materials and organizing publicity and educational programmes, the Committee also operates the Community Participation Scheme to sponsor community organizations in organizing civic education projects.
The Committee has also set up the Civic Education Resources Centre which is open for public use. Its facilities include reference library, reading area, audio-visual equipment, computer, etc. The Centre is located at 7/F, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan, Hong Kong.
